The Stones in the Park
Hyde Park July 1969
One of the Greatest Concerts in Rock History
There had never been a Concert like it. Half a Million people gathered on 5th July 1969 in the open air in London's Hyde Park to pay homage to the group described as the greatest Rock 'n' Roll band in the World: THE ROLLING STONES
It was two days after the tragic death of guitarist Brian Jones and the atmosphere in Hyde Park was charged with emotion. One newspaper's headline dubbed the concert, ''Requiem for a Stone'' The Guardian called it ''a major event in English social history''
From all over Britain, the Continent and the United States, the ''pilgrims'' came to occupy a few acres of green turf. They all rocked together ; Hippies, Greasers, Skinheads, Hells Angels.
Six camera crews traced the events from dawn at 4.30am with people camping in the park in sleeping bags, to the Stones finale at dusk an epic 5 hour marathon
One crew filmed and interviewed Mick Jagger and the other Stones throughout their pre concert preparations.
